For me, shooting sports is like what fishing is to a lot of other guys (or gals). I find it very relaxing and a tremendous stress relief. Just like fishermen like to sit by the river for hours waiting for a great (fish) catch that may never bite, I like to sit on the sidelines and wait for a great shot. I have been known to spend 2-3 hours at a game and come back home without a single shot. I would never call that a bad day. The worst day shooting is better than the best day doing anything else.
On this day, I had an image in my mind and I did not know if I could actually get the image. I brought my 400mm lens, a 2x teleconverter, an 8-foot step ladder and stood out behind the centerfield fence looking to recreate the image I had in my mind.
I am not sure if I got it right but I am happy with the results even though I had to deal with some pretty tough lighting. I will try it again at a different field and maybe one day I will get it right.
That fish is out there somewhere.
