Hamilton Chases its Fourth Baseball State Title.

Three time Arizona AIA Division I state champions Hamilton High School Huskies (Chandler) went into the State Tournament with a #1 state seed, a #1 National Ranking with MaxPreps and a #22 ranking with Xcellent Writer’s poll. With only a single state loss during the regular season they were the heavy favorites to take the state championship.

The following is a photo journey of the Huskies’ path through the AIA Division I State Tournament. Special thanks to Coach Mike Woods for allowing me to document his team throughout the tournament.

  1. What a wonderful journey this season was capped off by the AIA championship. From the outside it may have looked like such a certainty for the Husky Run, but for the team players, families and husky fans it was far from certain. For the players, the team had played in the shadows for so many reasons, Too many reasons to elaborate really. For the parents, each player on that team were our kids. We had watch each grow up, struggle through disappointments, work through bumps bruises broken bones and in the end endure to the finish. The kids were not only a team but so too were the parents – we had learned this through the parents who came before us. For the Coaches, the players and parents owe so much. Too much thanks and so much respect has been earned by these men. They are teachers, counselors, psychologists and competitors all within the bounds of “doing it right”. In the end, your pictures show they backed away and let the light shine on the team. Magic, a magic season and in a way proof that miracles do happen for those who work very hard and look for them.
